Amazon is adding another option for the likes of Showtime and Starz via its new Streaming Partners Program.Going forward, Amazon will give Prime customers free trials on subscriptions and discounted pricing. Instead of paying $11 for Showtime or adding Starz to a cable plan, you can get both for $8.99 a month. Other add-on subscriptions include Comedy Acorn TV, Central Stand-Up Plus, Gaia, Lifetime Movie Club, and Qello Concerts.In return for lower prices, Amazon's partners get more customers without the hassle of managing their credit cards and providing customer service. These product apps provide an additional access point to Gale content making it even easier for students, instructors, schools, and public library patrons to easily access resources from their tablets and mobile devices.
AOL remains the undisputed Internet access leader with 35.1 million subscribers. That's a far cry from Microsoft's MSN, which has more than 8 million for its own ISP (Internet service provider). In July, AOL Time Warner executives said 17.7 million U.S. subscribers pay the full $23.90 a month for AOL, still more than double the number of subscribers of its closest competition.
